i think in practice "nice" is like, don't make waves, appease people, avoid saying things that challenge them or hurt their feelings; none of that is necessarily kind, kindness sometimes involves saying really difficult but necessary things

i think changing people's opinions is in some sense impossible but you can listen to other people's stories and you can tell your own story (scroll up for context)
