my understanding of the uh "traditional" pov here is that it's weird / confusing / a sign of desperation. like "traditionally" women ought to just be attractive and wait for men to approach them (not intending a judgment about whether this is good or bad for the moment)

well yeah and i think the experience on the other end is confusion too! like "wtf is this woman doing, who is she to be doing this"
sort of a gender-specific ask vs. guess vs. tell culture thing
There's this whole other area that might not be gender-related though, that has something to do with *being pursued*
I find myself really frequently just not being interested in people that actively pursue me and I haven't figured out why, or if that's really what's going on
