corollary for readers is that if you really like something someone wrote on twitter please consider DMing them saying so! and as usual it helps to be specific: "hey, i loved this point you raised in your recent piece, it really helped me see [etc]"

i suppose DMs + replies. DMs specifically measure things people really want to tell me they liked but don't necessarily want to be *seen publicly* telling me they liked; historically it's been e.g. reflections on masculinity, romance, sexuality, that kinda shadowy stuff

the longer you spend tweeting and the bigger you get, i think, the clearer you need to be with yourself about what your vision for tweeting is. you can end up with an audience bigger than your vision is clear and then your audience dictates what you write instead

i've joked (in a joke-about-the-outcomes-you-want-way) about tweeting for my future wife; that's not the only thing i'm doing here but it's a very clarifying vision. if everyone else hates a tweet but she loves it then i'm golden
