there’s a kind of self-love you could describe as “courage” - the willingness to stand up to tyranny, even your own - and the aesthetics of that word are completely different. would attract a different crowd and nucleate a different scene

I love this... Self-respect maybe rather than self-love? Or as well as?

this is another word i like in theory but in practice i feel like its meaning has become very diluted somehow? i don't feel like people have a clear sense of what "respect" means anymore
