i have some bad habits i think i picked up from spending so long talking about math. a particular authoritative teach-y voice that almost never feels appropriate in non-math contexts but that sneaks out occasionally anyway :/ think it's been getting better but there's still some

IMO the word “teach” is a weirder bundle than people usually give it credit for

21. The word “teach” implies a certain degree of confidence about what a kid is likely to learn from a situation that is very rarely justified.
Our culture has way too little epistemic humility about what kids are learning when and why.
