do y'all actually know people who've been in therapy for like 5+ years and it doesn't seem to be helping them very much? i keep hearing about these people but i don't actually know any. what kind of therapy do they do?

So many oofs reading these replies :(
This is why #8 is on my list; because "just listen to you talk about your week and provide some emotional support/reflective listening" can feel nice, but it's often not enough, and rarely worth the price.

mmm
i did 4 years (and then another 4 intermittently) of psychoanalysis with no homework or anything
overall it was a net good for me

i've recently started doing something therapy-like but not therapy
i don't want to talk about it just yet but i will say it's quite lifechanging and it is more action-oriented
already after a few sessions i've made some incredible progress with a few things
