do y'all actually know people who've been in therapy for like 5+ years and it doesn't seem to be helping them very much? i keep hearing about these people but i don't actually know any. what kind of therapy do they do?

So many oofs reading these replies :( This is why #8 is on my list; because "just listen to you talk about your week and provide some emotional support/reflective listening" can feel nice, but it's often not enough, and rarely worth the price. daystareld.com/the-bad-therap

interesting that they're mostly DIY self-therapies. I think meaningful work can clearly be done that way, but bringing in the relational element is really powerful as arguably our strongest affective experiences occur within relationships.

everything on that list can be facilitated by a therapist or coach; i do think it's valuable to also provide self-therapy options for people who can't or won't see a therapist or coach for reasons, it's been immensely valuable for me at least
