agh there's also a lot of different scales. like there's small scale "i know what kinds of food i like" and there's large scale "i know what i want to do with my life" and idk how distinct they are
one benefit of having a childhood where I didn't get much choice in what I did is that I take freedom very, very well. never related to elder millenials crying about "adulting," how is that not leagues better than having every decision made for you every day
my worst days as a bill paying adult are my fault, my worst days as a kid are someone else's fault. the frustrating part was not being able to learn from my mistakes and change, I just had to watch adults make the same poor decisions and be impacted by them
career-wise: every time I've taken a job because I needed the money I've found something awesome in it, and the only time I've taken a job I thought I'd really enjoy and actually liked it is my current job, conditioned by twenty years of "I thought I wanted it but it went bad"
Does this poll include knowing how to achieve those ends or is it just about knowing the various things you want/need and/or having a reasonable understanding of why?
"What I need," "Why do I need it?," and "How will I get it?" are all really important for this question.
I definitely know things that I need, I don't always know how I'll get them, and for some things I have a hard time breaking down exactly why I (feel) that I need them.
It's a tangled rhizome with redactions at key junctures.
