how would i go about making my room smell a little nicer? go to the mall and test out scented candles? something less likely to start a fire?

alright we are starting with re-buying a coway. i bought one of these in 2016 off the wirecutter rec to deal with allergies, came in handy during wildfire season, runs incredibly quietly and you can taste / smell the difference in air quality

Nice. I've used hepa purifiers for years and they work well if you have allergies, pets etc. Best thing for the smell solution is incense. There's some very cool resins and blends out there, and they can be heated safely, not burned. Check out "golden lotus heater"

whoa that looks aesthetic as hell which is definitely a point in its favor

I use mine with frankincense mostly, or blends of various resins and herbs. Oud is expensive, but worth checking out if you chase sensations / complexity, or want something besides myrrh or frankincense with a deep history
