thinking about the phrase "time heals all wounds" and how it is both literally and metaphorically wrong some wounds heal naturally over time, some get worse. the second kind need treatment to get your body's natural healing back on course, that's why medicine exists

a common way wounds get worse over time is by getting infected, so: what might a psychic (emotional, spiritual) analogue of this be? how might a psychic wound come to be infected and by what?

thinking out loud: a literal wound gets infected because normally your skin is protecting your insides from being invaded by bacteria and so forth, and when the skin is broken your delicious insides, full of nutrients, become available to be eaten

so, just directly transposing: when you're psychically wounded a psychic defense has been broken, and valuable psychic nutrients which are normally contained inside you start spilling out, which attracts psychic parasites who feed off of you

"memes" and "egregores" is a more interesting possibility. i really do think that wounded people are also more vulnerable to getting infected by memetic parasites (e.g. extreme ideologies); we have "brainworms" as a term for a good reason
