thinking about the phrase "time heals all wounds" and how it is both literally and metaphorically wrong some wounds heal naturally over time, some get worse. the second kind need treatment to get your body's natural healing back on course, that's why medicine exists

thinking out loud: a literal wound gets infected because normally your skin is protecting your insides from being invaded by bacteria and so forth, and when the skin is broken your delicious insides, full of nutrients, become available to be eaten

so, just directly transposing: when you're psychically wounded a psychic defense has been broken, and valuable psychic nutrients which are normally contained inside you start spilling out, which attracts psychic parasites who feed off of you

"other people" is the most straightforward possibility; i have in mind stuff like narcissists recruiting wounded people for narcissistic supply, cult leaders, energy vampire / psychic vampire type stuff

"memes" and "egregores" is a more interesting possibility. i really do think that wounded people are also more vulnerable to getting infected by memetic parasites (e.g. extreme ideologies); we have "brainworms" as a term for a good reason

You can be preoccupied or distracted by some excuse, a shame cycle, regret, antisocial ideation (e.g. the fantasy of crashing the car), the uncertainty of why you were fired, normal stuff like this
