my current guess about how to think about what word2vec similarity is measuring (it really isn't semantic distance per se)

so you want to think about something like, given a word, the following 2-step inference:
1) which sentences in which kinds of newspaper articles is this word likely to appear in
2) which other words are likely to appear in similar sentences in similar articles

game state at the end. "leg" on guess #7 was nice, did body parts for awhile, then bone words because of "spinal," then "marrow," then "transplant"
was thinking about sentences involving injuries, e.g. "the football player injured his ____" but had to abandon that at the end

I solved Semantle #17 in 58 guesses. semantle.novalis.org
Lots of random sampling for first 25, some regrettable hill-climbing in the teen scores, then hit a top-1000 at #53 (and the "closeness" in the top1k actually made sense this time)
