arguably (sorta vervaeke-inspired) attention is sort of the fundamental resource, cognitively so the right verb for it would actually be the same verb as for energy or entropy do we have a verb for that? "burn" but *usefully*. "harness"? goddamn we need a new basic word again

What if instead of talking about "paying attention" we talked about "investing attention"? 🤔 #MetaphorsMatter

The difference IMO is that attention is hardly "consumed" by using it, attention is finite mostly because time is finite and sensory bandwidth ~constant. I can't, say, conserve attention by absent-mindedly going through most my day so I can use it up later.

yeah i went for 'placing' when i was playing around with ideas here too but some types of attention (loosely: those that override intuitive input) can pretty much be considered a resource, so 'paying' works for those.

I think most people reading this will have spent most of their lives "paying attention". And not enough time placing their attention in or out. 👇 Am I right? #ship30for30 #WritingDeepLife
