so i'm listening to a podcast with an obviously brilliant and quite knowledgeable meditation teacher, but he just said that no matter how wonderful the day's experiences will be, it's dreadful to be roused from sleep because unconsciousness is great, and... no ?? ???? what?

the more manic i am the earlier i naturally want to wake up and the more i look forward to all the things i could do while awake so maybe the dude is depressed 🤔

but a meditation guy who knows a bunch of jhanas could never be depressed, what are you talking about
...
idk if he's depressed, maybe he just really likes unconsciousness, whatever makes you happy my guy, but it's just weird to me??????

like I was reading a jhana book that casually recommended...
agree with it all except "nothing WORTH hanging on to" or "ultimately unsatisfactory"

for me letting go of sensations makes them way more satisfactory, when i'm listening to music without discursive distance it's almost too good, painfully good, sure it doesn't relieve all the discomforts of existence but like..... do i need to do that??? is it desirable?

i listened to another meditation podcast recently with a guy who was like, 'yeah, i've met all of these enlightened people who claim to have no negative emotions ever and... lol it just seems like they're the only ones unaware of their negative emotions'

real talk i think it's easy for a particular style of hardcore meditation to amount to something like "get really good at shutting my parts up"
which is not at all the same as resolving psychological issues!
