there are times when i want what i say to be taken very literally and there are times when i want what i say to be taken very metaphorically / poetically / symbolically and i haven't figured out how to communicate accurately which times are which

Just thinking of the visual qualities web designs can imply.

when i'm upset and in metaphor mode it feels almost trivializing to myself to be like "i don't really mean this, it's a metaphor", but idk how to combat that
