there's this technique called "image streaming" where you basically practice letting your mind generate images and then describing them out loud; i did it once and found it very helpful and also very intense

historically most of my emotional processing has been verbal but i've been increasingly running into stuff that seems like it would benefit from more body stuff on the one hand and more imagery on the other; you can get a lot more rich vivid detail in an image

so i've been slowly incorporating more imagery into my practice, both allowing spontaneous imagery to arise and also focusing on an image to see what feelings it generates. lot of good stuff happening, and also i feel blocked on lack of vividness

i used to think i have a pretty good memory but i'm realizing more now that my memories are really lacking vivid immersiveness. other people report a lot more sensory and emotional detail than i can ever manage and this seems changeable

i tried keeping my attention on visual memories of middle school last night and it was weirdly intense. i got very wired and couldn't sleep until i stopped doing it for long enough to relax out of a freeze response. so seems like i'm dissociating from my memories 🤔

idk seems like there's a lot of stuff going on here and i don't have a good handle on it. would be very curious to hear from anyone else who's worked with stuff like this, esp. if you've substantially increased the vividness and immersiveness of your memories

This is something people (most? some?) really struggle with when trying to learn visionary / ceremonial magic, of which the / a primary technique is visualisation.

I find it extremely difficult to deliberately visualise things (imaginary or from memory) with much vividness, and there’s never any sound (also no sound in my dreams).
