in middle school we had these test dividers we'd use so we couldn't look at each other's tests. our teachers let us write and draw all over them so they were all filled with the most inane pictures and in-jokes and speculations about crushes. i loved them

it would have been easy for them to tell us we weren't allowed to write on them, or have them made of a different material we couldn't write on. i'm grateful they didn't do that. they were like analog forums or like graffiti walls, we really expressed the hell out of ourselves

i wonder if they kept them. the middle school is like a 5-minute drive from here. i wonder if they still remember me after 20 years 🥲

i haven't thought about the test dividers since middle school probably but they came up last night when i was reflecting on middle school memories and creeping on everyone who was in my year. surprising number of people still live here! i could get coffee with them!
