sometime during middle school i started sucking in my gut all the time to look skinnier. probably one of the worst decisions i ever made - i think it constricted my breathing, made me slightly more anxious all the time, and possibly reduced access to some emotions

Transverse abdominal muscles being as/more powerful than erectus (8 pack muscles) drives at least one common cause for that look. Source: have been fat, am skinny, but that 'look' came only after doing lots of exercises that worked the transverse.

Ooh, yeah. I still don't wear most light material shirts because of yon man boobage that remains despite weight loss. For abdominal tension I found hanging leg raises and oblique twists/side shrugs worked my transverse abs, improved my breathing and filled out loose skin fwiw
