it seems like though you can do a lot of parts work style therapy yourself, you very quickly run into the bottleneck that what makes you miserable, your inner denial or whatever, presents simply as the default framework, you end up trying to find the lens in the image

honestly this is not a problem i’ve run into? i stay grounded by paying attention to how things feel in the body - if i don’t feel bodily relieved then i’m not done

there’s a specific move i had to learn to do, idk if i know a source offhand that talks about this, but it’s like “generating words directly from a bodily feeling.” cuts througn a lot of bullshit if you can manage it
huh so i understand focusing to refer to the process of testing out some words against a bodily feeling for fit; which is also something i do but i’m not actually sure if gendlin talks about directly using the bodily feeling to generate the words, it’s been a long time

Kerouac has rhyming advice for writers (“if you’re struggling for a word, stop, picture the thing, and let the word(s) come to you”)

This was what I felt during a session of somatic experiencing. The biggest difference between this and other methods for me was the patience and non-prodding involved - just sitting and waiting for words to come from the feeling, not really asking it for anything.
