like the Focusing approach to things, you can heal trauma through acting the schema using imagery, metaphor, analogy, etc
Ideal Parent Figure being one specific instance of the technique

it's been a long time but doesn't he (spoilers!) break the "ancestral curse" by repaying the debt that his ancestors owed by acting it out again with their descendants, or something to that effect? the story depicts this by interweaving the two stories to show their equivalence.
