Why is there such a huge range in how much people enjoy the gym? I love this place and feel amazing after working out, I’d do it even if there were no long term health benefits A third my friends feel the same way, a third feel meh but coerce themselves, a third hate it. Why?

I feel about going to the gym how I feel about the cafe in the morning to get my coffee. It’s just really nice and a habit and feels great in the short and long term. At no point is it unfun, but I hear these descriptions of how the gym is a hell land. What explains the big diff?

My provisional theory is that we all memed “the gym sucks but it’s worth it” into existence and people aren’t listening to their body to see how it actually feels? Or our reward pathways and body are really variable? Or body dysphoria stuff outweighs the inherent fun in lifting?
