he told us to stick out out butts more than we expected and i think the way i did that put my hips at a weird angle. now when i walk too much i reliably get pain in my lower back

QC have you been couchstretch pilled yet For me, reducing the tension across the front of my upper legs was/is key to letting me walk w/o tension in my lower back, really large immediate difference w/ the stretch.
