Decade by decade, going back in time, there's a warmer, more earthy quality to the vibe. Modern skits feel "thin" by contrast
I wonder if it's that they literally produce less visceral impact because... ?

it’s not just SNL skits, i kinda feel this way about most movies and TV shows. try watching some older ones on netflix, back to the future’s not a bad place to start

SNL specifically i hear they used to memorize the lines and at some point switched to teleprompter, especially for guest stars, and it really makes things worse. people aren’t looking at each other, more stilted deliveries, etc.
