is it that people change across time, so we can't take who the person is at the moment to be representative of who they are overall?

what I got out of it is echos of dysfunction between/through generations (tl;dr "hurt people hurt people") and interconnectedness of everyone. The bully in first 2-3 rows grows into a man connected to ... ... ... the victim he bullied

This is good, I like “intergenerational karma transmission” stories like this.
Chris Ware has some “here’s how that played out over several lifetimes” elements in his comics too. I think most people who like this comic would enjoy Chris Ware too.
