Anyone have any advice for learning piano as an adult? I can already play a bit, and I'm a reasonable enough guitarist. Do I need a teacher or can I reasonably git gud on my own?

i learned as a kid so i don’t have direct experience but i guess it depends what your goals are? if you just wanna play pop music you’ll probably be fine, the guitar experience helps ime, you can learn to kinda riff. i did this a lot in college and it was v fun
off the top of my head the main thing you might want a teacher for, other than motivation, is stuff like double-checking your finger and hand posture and positioning maybe? although there might be good youtube videos about this sort of thing

I can improvise fairly well (mostly monophonically though), but i imagine my technique is pretty messy. But I'd like to learn some classical/jazz pieces, and I'm wondering if fumbling through enough of them on my own will get me there haha

oh that i don’t know about, for classical in particular a teacher seems like more of a good idea. but i do kinda wonder how far you can get by paying really careful attention to youtube videos
