getting little stabs of anxiety and attempting to burn them off through some mix of shaking, hyperventilating, long breaths, feeling the feelings, naming the feelings. it appears to be working but gosh i look forward to eventually not having to do this

“long breaths” is explicitly as opposed to deep breaths, the deepness doesn’t seem to matter that much ime. long means long inhale and long exhale, for grounding

from the diaphragm though, i guess it’s deep in that sense. but not as in like filling up your chest

I also had some of this kind of anxiety earlier today. I did some of this thing where I observe my breathing as if I’m not in control of the diaphragm which my AT coach said actually is true

I guess it’s like yeah you can meddle with it but the actual process of breathing isn’t possible to “do” and of course breathing is one of the absolutely primary things your body has been capable of doing automatically since when you were an amoeba 5 trillion years ago

i can see why it might be helpful to believe this but nevertheless i protest: it seems very obviously true to me that it is possible to “do” breathing 🧐🧐🧐 you can hold your breath on purpose, you can take shallower or deeper breaths on purpose, like… what???

Yeah I don’t really understand these things, maybe it’s like you can change your breathing pattern but you do that through different mechanisms than moving your diaphragm but really I have no idea
