i saw and read a lot about men being creepy growing up (and still do) and the lesson i internalized was to just never hit on women ever. it didn't help that i never saw what *good* flirting was supposed to look like, except in TV / movies and that had its own problems (3/n)

i was a student at mcgill in montreal, traveling home to dc for the holidays on the train (my first train ride!) met a group of male mcgill/concordia students who invited me to play cards with them. the blond one caught my eye immediately, and turned out to be really funny and

sweet… i think by the end of the trip i was imagining telling our children the romantic story of us meeting on a train (he asked me out a few times once we were back in montreal, i said no each time and regretted it later. but i still cherish this train memory 🥰)
