my year in review: i don’t remember most of what happened this year because 1) not that much happened, 2) time isn’t real anymore, and 3) when i started using roam i stopped maintaining my workflowy journal which it turns out was an important part of my memory

this is what my workflowy journal looks like, it’s nested by year, month, day and i have daily notes and monthly summaries and reflections. it’s really cool to get to quickly and easily zoom in and out of different timescales of what was going on in my life

i didn’t realize this was happening but this journal was part of how i maintained a sense of like long-term temporal continuity and a sense of the arc of my life? like this is what i’ve been up to the past months, this is the direction my life is trending

MacIntyre’s “After Virtue” takes this kind of multiscale narrative intentional biography as totally essential to human action and identity

hmm yeah but I think it’s also a bit of a secret superpower to work with it explicitly in these times when material social context is so nebulous
