my year in review: i don’t remember most of what happened this year because 1) not that much happened, 2) time isn’t real anymore, and 3) when i started using roam i stopped maintaining my workflowy journal which it turns out was an important part of my memory

this was a mistake, i restarted my workflowy journal this month, and not coincidentally my life appears to be moving again 🧐

this is what my workflowy journal looks like, it’s nested by year, month, day and i have daily notes and monthly summaries and reflections. it’s really cool to get to quickly and easily zoom in and out of different timescales of what was going on in my life

i didn’t realize this was happening but this journal was part of how i maintained a sense of like long-term temporal continuity and a sense of the arc of my life? like this is what i’ve been up to the past months, this is the direction my life is trending

and i didn’t know how to make roam daily notes do the same thing and that turned out to kinda suck actually. so i restarted and i think it really did help anchor me in time a bit

it’s not in the screenshots but i also take extensive notes when really significant things happen that i want to remember in more detail and i have gone back to those notes and been grateful for the detail and wished they were even more detailed

i may go back and try refilling in the journal, i stopped almost exactly during the beginning of lockdown which is uh. very symbolic imguess

oh also i spent a truly embarrassing amount of time this year just playing two specific mobile gacha games. may tweet a bit about that sometime i suppose 🤔

Are you deliberately trying to capture what happened so as to remember it later, or does that just happen naturally by journaling? If the former, does that ever feel stale/tedious?

Or just more on how you’re framing it would be great hehe. Looks as if you’re sort of writing intentions and then reflecting on how they went?

Do you use a specific website/program for your journal? I'd like to try this!

just thought I'd send a quick response in case you're still searching - it's workflowy (workflowy.com/b/) & it's both iOS & android compatible!
