i wonder if it matters that we grew up on instant messaging that was lowercase do you think zoomers who have always chatted on phones w autocorrect have similar associations with first letter capital bc that's in all their casual chats by default?

i’m technically gen z (‘97) but part of the reason i keep autocap off is because i caught the tail end of instant messaging and got used to my thoughts being all lowercase! it looks foreign to have capitalization to me but many of my friends keep autocap on

when everyone was getting their phones in elementary / middle school, i’m pretty sure we typed in upper case because it was the default but then implicit texting politics happened and lower case became cool. with that being said, the association i have is upper case is school.

I'm technically a zoomer but I grew up on IRC and bbs's. I remember at some point I consciously started capitalizing 'I' because I felt immature not capitalizing it
