i think generally humanoid robots in fiction are pretty much never really robots, in the sense that their plotlines have nothing to do with robotics, they're thinly veiled metaphors for autistic and/or traumatized people. that's why they always want to "become human"

i gather at some point it became a popular internet pastime to rag on wesley crusher but in season 1 at least i feel pretty protective of him. he just wants the adults to listen to him and take him seriously you guys!

picard's actual dedication to the prime directive is legitimately inspiring. it feels somehow very fresh and unusual to see someone so straightforwardly stand up for both 1) rule of law and 2) cosmopolitanism
