IFS protectors can be like those japanese soldiers on isolated islands years after the end of WWII who kept fighting b/c they didn’t know the war was over. what they need is to be told, gently, that the war is over (if it is indeed over)

Loch Kelly has a whole thing on conceiving of the ego (/sense of self we commonly experience / identify with in our heads) as an IFS part in The Way of Effortless Midnfulness lochkelly.org/way-of-effortl. I believe it's a chapter.
Kelly & Richard Schwartz have done some collabs too

Brings to mind this story I heard about the @DalaiLama (wow, he's on twitter, wonder if he can confirm that this really happened

people think i've done a lot of IFS because of how warmly i talk about it here but actually i've barely done any at all. IFS for me is mostly about having a really respectful conceptual framework that avoids what i see as disrespectful conceptual mistakes in other frameworks

i have gotten a ton of mileage out of identifying two different parts with opposing goals, bringing them into the same room, & starting by asking if they're willing to acknowledge each others existance. its some Israel and Palestine shit up in here somedays
but they end up hugn
