thanks for the input everyone, gonna start with the lion. i will try imagining c.s. lewis reading this to me in a kindly grandfatherly voice

Publication order for sure.
Some bits in Wardrobe don’t make sense if you read Nephew first. Lines like, “None of the children knew who Aslan was anymore than you do…”

yeah i second publication order. you're sure to preserve all the mysteries and surprises when you have the same knowledge as the intended audience upon release

Publication order seems better for gradually unfolding the world IMO, but Lewis has said it doesn’t matter so 🤷

So the Magician’s Nephew is a bit different and tbh I think you could skip it altogether and just read the others (in order, ofc!) and then go back to it if you want to.

Idk when it was published relative to the others, but I feel like if it was published somewhere in the middle it would be weird to jump back to it in between the other books? I’d either read it first or last or not at all

i'd say start with lion, witch, & wardrobe bc it's a better first book, but then just do chronological (& go back to book #1 whenever u want, or even skip it i dunno it seemed weird to me, altho i have not read any of these since i was a kid so 🧂 🤷)
