sometimes i worry that the best approach to personal growth under capitalism may be to deliberately handicap yourself to be stuck obsessing over one step along the path that you can build a career out of, instead of trying to move on to the next step

let me rephrase: sometimes i worry that i, personally, will not be able to make a living if i keep moving on from my old obsessions to new obsessions as i grow and change as a person

like let’s say you grew up with a lot of sexual repression and you learned how to overcome it and you wrote a book about sexual liberation and maybe have a coaching practice or a workshop series - i know of a few people like this, it’s great stuff, but there’s other stuff too

I think about this all the time! I think there's genuine soul-poisoning potential there, but participating is what I've got to be doing. I guess just build wealth at the part you obsess over and ruminate over the next move.

Was just thinking about this today (for the hundredth time). Two strategies are: a) find life purpose, trust $ will come as mastery matures (will still require marketing skills regardless) and --->

*or* b)choose high-leverage financial foundation (probs requires investment) and robustly develop this to allow for max amount of years actually doing whatever naturally grows out of you.

What do you think about moving to places that are not very competitive and which allow more mobility? (The competition, which locks people in, seems to also be the reason for staying in competitive places and fields, because being engaged in competition itself is meaningful.)
