Underrated tweet. A big part of the value delivered by teachers, gurus, therapists or retreats is providing a convincing narrative about why their clients couldn't have changed before, but they're finally able to do it now.

i think there are some interesting parallels between an incompetent and sclerotic bureaucracy and a depressed person. including the part that is like "obviously we can't just easily solve our problems because that would look deeply embarrassing"
