I sincerely wonder whether boys get told “hey be respectful of women when you go out tonight” or “hey make sure you get consent” by their parents as often as I hear “make sure you don’t take a drink from anyone” or “just promise to watch your drink carefully, don’t set it down”:/

all my parents told me was “don’t get her pregnant”
the respecting women stuff i got from TV and movies, which i probably spent more time with than my parents tho

also tbc i think the respecting women stuff was almost entirely bad for me. it made me really scared and anxious and i suppressed a lot of my sexuality for a long time. do not recommend :/

I suspect good parents could potentially do this better than universities and media

Yeah, there must be a better way on both ends 😅 getting told you can’t trust anyone & that you should always be safety conscious first can definitely lead to fear & anxiety for me as well

that also sounds lame yes 😔 and i do think we can do better! what i wish i’d heard more of is stuff like, advice about how to get better at gauging when women are more vs. less comfortable
Idk, maybe also being more forceful, with guys, about no means no isn't a terrible idea as well, given how that's gone with my friend circles back in middle/high school.
