Yeah I think I understand what you’re pointing at, but at the same time these images live rent free in the heads of millions of people. If these were beautiful images, wouldn’t this affect the inner life of all these people too?

Also, the best thing about memes is that everyone can remix them infinitely, you don’t need any special art skill to add a caption on a classical painting

I like ugly memes because their inherent unattractiveness lets our shadow parts identify with them more readily, setting up the reverse connection where memes may tap into our shadows. Beautiful memes have this much less & when they do, the non-beauty of the captions helps a lot.

Perhaps it wouldn’t bother me as much if we were surrounded by beauty otherwise. These days everything from the design of everyday things to architecture to public spaces to modern art looks as if our whole civilization conspired against beauty.

So, nothing came to mind, so I googled, and found lots of articles on "best buildings of the 21st century so far" and the like. Unfortunately while there are many *interesting* buildings, there don't seem to many *beautiful* buildings in your sense!
