wait wouldn’t this apply just as much to millennials? what did the US government accomplish that was big and complex in our lifetimes?

I had the sickening realization yesterday that some of my Gen. Z students were open to the moon landing hoax conspiracy theory because the idea that the U.S. government could actually accomplish something big and complex was totally outside of their lived experience.

otoh i wouldn’t be surprised if to a zoomer it just doesn’t feel like this is the sort of country that was capable of something like a moon landing. you don’t look around and think “ah yes we are now 50 years past being an advanced enough civilization to land on the moon”

millennials at least grew up during a time where we could plausibly believe that large institutional forces were basically successfully maintaining order and prosperity in the US. lot less believable to a zoomer and nowadays, for good reason
