when people say they don't want to be inundated with "negativity" what they mean is that they don't want to feel powerless. it's confusing terminology tho because in this sense the opposite of "negativity" is not "positivity," it's action

the internet in some sense makes your eyes and your mouth much bigger, like literally as big as the entire planet, but not the rest of your body which is pretty wack

i think they don't want to be reminded that the way they cut themselves slack hurts people because they haven't properly integrated the limits of their agency.

My experience is that being exposed to a lot of negative / downer thoughts is like the opposite of gratitude practice. Focus on what you want more of! It’s not the tone, it’s the topic.

Also it’s about mindset protection (what ever that mindset is). Too much negativity with the powerlessness of the receiver may develop “fuck every thing” kinda mindset, not good

Indeed. A cross-system cascade of collapsing confidence and volition. Want to be useless for 6 months, but don't want to alrrady be clinically depressed to start?

A lot of people have rescuer parts, as well as passive-aggressive parts that come to resent the person their other parts want to rescue and blame that wish on them. This tends to have terrible consequences for everyone.

Really like this perspective. Negativity and criticism can be valid without being helpful. There are often inconvenient truths that we’d be better off ignoring because they cause stress or discourage action

sometimes it is just not the right time! reading about global warming to procrastinate dealing with the job you don't like or the relationship you should've ended already or etc. etc. etc.
