tbf i think the idea was supposed to be that people’s behavior is shaped by all these forces outside of their control so that’s why you should have empathy for them but the idea just eats itself the more you think about it 🤔

It seems totally consistent to me - irrespective of whether the hard claim if no free will is true - there's nothing at odds with saying we should have more empathy with others here. It's not a matter of choice, good reasons move us. The argument will land - or not.

Like, the logic of writing that tweet, is adding another outside force into the mix.
