something has been weirding me out about bellevue's vibe since i came back here and i think i have the beginning of a handle on it: absolutely nobody here feels like a "native"

very immigrant-heavy, east asian, south asian, eastern european. everyone feels like they moved here recently to work at microsoft or boeing or something (like my family did in 2001). i don't have a sense that this city really has its own culture. people just live here

maybe i'm just not used to being back in real actual suburbs, i haven't been back downtown and that might feel different...

If you meant Bellevue, WA, tbh I think that is because it was so small beforehand. It is really hard to find the few pockets of now old white folks that were there prior. Same in Issaquah. Down south at least you have more vibrant, long-established Vietnamese, etc.
