something has been weirding me out about bellevue's vibe since i came back here and i think i have the beginning of a handle on it: absolutely nobody here feels like a "native"

very immigrant-heavy, east asian, south asian, eastern european. everyone feels like they moved here recently to work at microsoft or boeing or something (like my family did in 2001). i don't have a sense that this city really has its own culture. people just live here

maybe i'm just not used to being back in real actual suburbs, i haven't been back downtown and that might feel different...

Bellevue is an extremely unusual place. I’ve never been anywhere else where so much of the city was built within a decade or two. Everything is new and built to plan. It feels like walking around a very large office park.
