something has been weirding me out about bellevue's vibe since i came back here and i think i have the beginning of a handle on it: absolutely nobody here feels like a "native"
Conversation
very immigrant-heavy, east asian, south asian, eastern european. everyone feels like they moved here recently to work at microsoft or boeing or something (like my family did in 2001). i don't have a sense that this city really has its own culture. people just live here
Replying to
maybe i'm just not used to being back in real actual suburbs, i haven't been back downtown and that might feel different...

there are definitely natives in the bay area, parts anyway. berkeley and oakland have lots of people that feel like they've lived there for decades and i've had convos with uber drivers and stuff confirming that. palo alto feels more like what i mean
