something has been weirding me out about bellevue's vibe since i came back here and i think i have the beginning of a handle on it: absolutely nobody here feels like a "native"

very immigrant-heavy, east asian, south asian, eastern european. everyone feels like they moved here recently to work at microsoft or boeing or something (like my family did in 2001). i don't have a sense that this city really has its own culture. people just live here

(aside: actually I feel this about Singapore too even though Singapore has a lot going for it on a lot of levels
there's the official narrative sure, but there is a felt community sense that's malnourished, which is keeping it from being a GOAT city
