you remembered this piece in a nicer way than i did, for me it was sort of horrifying - less "teaches you to live with its flaws" and more "subtly conditions you to avoid vast regions of action space without you noticing"

A friend of mine's laptop one day started hanging for like 5 minutes when he tried to create a new folder
Copy/Pasting still worked fine
So eventually he just created one folder that he kept empty, and when he needed a new folder he'd copy that and paste it where appropriate
