it's just called a belief update. "propositional belief updates" do not exist and never have. as someone once said, "there are beliefs, and then there are the things people say"
You don’t think there are different kinds of understanding? Like grokking is a thing right? It feels like a difference in kind rather than degree to me

I like gears-level understanding for when you can directly see the mechanics of a model such that it becomes obviously and necessarily true
is this distinct from grokking in your view?
