the most helpful thing i've done for my sleep recently is to, right before bed, take 30 minutes to an hour to shut off all my screens and lie in bed eyes closed and *not* fall asleep, just rest my eyes and let my system work out the stress of looking at screens all day

How is this different from going to bed and not being sleepy enough to fall asleep quickly (and being patient with that)?
