the backlash against sex positivity reminds me a lot of a thing i ran into teaching at a high school summer program, which is that every time we tried to say "X is good, maybe" the students heard "an oversimplified, twisted version of X is mandatory"

I feel like I've come across some form of this misunderstanding so many times, but I'm having trouble making it concrete.
One example would be EAs saying that measuring things is useful when you can... and people taking it as "if you can't measure it it has no value".

i wish i had a better word for it. it is a kind of flanderization but i don't have a word specifically for something like the jump from "good" to "mandatory"
