Implying that sex positivity backlash is coming from people who heard once too often that sex positivity might be good. No, it's coming from people who have suffered from a culture that treats sex as a transactional service, and pushes for women's default answer to sex to be yes

the backlash against sex positivity reminds me a lot of a thing i ran into teaching at a high school summer program, which is that every time we tried to say "X is good, maybe" the students heard "an oversimplified, twisted version of X is mandatory"

sure, but where did that culture come from? i'm not super familiar with the history here but i think you can make a strong case that it goes back to free love stuff from the '60s, and that, i think, was v much about countering sex negativity

I think that's key here. Norms are in a feedback loop with technology & social structures. Norms may be good in isolation but apps like Tinder and the breakdown of prior social webs lead to awful results and only bad choices for ppl participating.

Sure, a specific instantiation of sex negativity, but I believe it was more a revolt against illegitimate authority. Regardless the phenomenon is more of a rebellion against harmful instantiations of norms rather than an oversimplification and exaggeration of a nuanced position.
