i think the term "man-child" has a lot to offer once you stop seeing it as automatically derogatory and start seeing it as a more neutral description, or even as - god forbid - a potential cause for empathy

Tbh I see "man-child" as a warning to steer clear of a psychic vampire who will lap up emotional labor and then give nothing in return. But that's my baggage.

Sure, my frustration comes from the man-children who acknowledge their immaturity but claim to be content in Neverland and shrug off any suggestion to grow up. It isn't meant as an insult, more a reminder that I shouldn't expect normal adult reciprocity from the relationship.
